J'avais déjà écrit cet hémistiche, chers lecteurs, et j'allais inscrire au-dessous le nom d'Horace, lorsque je me demandai deux choses: si je me rappelais le commencement du vers et si ce vers était bien du poète de Venusium.

Chercher dans les cinq ou six mille vers d'Horace, c'était bien long, et je n'ai pas de temps à perdre.

Cependant, je tenais beaucoup à cet hémistiche, qui s'applique merveilleusement au livre que vous allez lire.
